Wow, look at them
They are my students, seriously trying to answer
some questions about one English fairy tales I
assigned to them, entitles Jack Hannaford
This is the last class I teach for this week (hello
food crop 2...) after 7 parallel classes two days
before.
Jack Hannaford is a tale about an old soldier who
make a fool of a farmer's wife and her husband.
He came to the farmer's house when the farmer had gone to the market. He told the farmer's
wife that he came from paradise and brought a message from her former husband to send him
some money. Since the farmer's wife is such a fool, she gave him the money entrusted to her by
her
husband. Knowing the fact that his money had gone, her husband rode his horse to after Jack but
unfortunately, Jack ran away with his horse also by making a fool of him to.
From my observation, it is quite difficult for them to answer those questions.
This is a funny story actually, but some of my classes failed to have a full understanding of this
story
There are some factors why it is difficult for them to understand:
1. Lacking of Vocabulary
2. Lacking of knowledge about idiom
3. Bad method of translating or understanding the text
4. Lacking of knowledge about English culture
well, at least next meeting I'll try another method maybe by introducing some difficult words
first
Just wait and see
