How to cope with 'Sleepy Sickness'

As a teacher, we are not always in a good condition when teaching

there is a time when our body is not in line with our duty. I often experience with

'sleepy sickness' while teaching. I can not open up my eyes. Very, very sleepy.

I was confused what should I do to cope with this 'disease'

It is impossible to fall asleep in front of my students

I have tried many things, walking around the class, checking students progress but

it doesn't work at all

Finally,I find a solution.

I play a music, cheerful music, of course after asking permission from my students

Thank God, now I can cope with this disease

I hope other teacher can also apply this method or maybe apply another method if

this one doesn't fit them

Happy teaching :)

Gloomy ..................

Today I have two classes

for our subject today, I have assigned the students to discuss in group a description of a plant

they may choose their favourite plant and they should present the result of their discussion in

power point

In the first class, I felt excited because they were enthusiastic, spiritful, dynamic

they were able to describe their plant eventhough at the first time they didn't meet my expectation

In the second class, I found it difficult to arouse my students enthusiasm

I myself felt gloomy because at the beginning of the class they still asked for permission to look

for laptop, sample plant huh.........................

To conclude, they didn't have a good preparation

I am really dissappointed

the same phenomenon always happen when i teach parallel class with the same topic

some classes are dynamics but others are less motivated

what a gloomy day I have .................

Reading a Tale

Wow, look at them

They are my students, seriously trying to answer

some questions about one English fairy tales I

assigned to them, entitles Jack Hannaford

This is the last class I teach for this week (hello

food crop 2...) after 7 parallel classes two days

before.

Jack Hannaford is a tale about an old soldier who

make a fool of a farmer's wife and her husband.

He came to the farmer's house when the farmer had gone to the market. He told the farmer's

wife that he came from paradise and brought a message from her former husband to send him

some money. Since the farmer's wife is such a fool, she gave him the money entrusted to her by

her

husband. Knowing the fact that his money had gone, her husband rode his horse to after Jack but

unfortunately, Jack ran away with his horse also by making a fool of him to.

From my observation, it is quite difficult for them to answer those questions.

This is a funny story actually, but some of my classes failed to have a full understanding of this

story

There are some factors why it is difficult for them to understand:

1. Lacking of Vocabulary

2. Lacking of knowledge about idiom

3. Bad method of translating or understanding the text

4. Lacking of knowledge about English culture

well, at least next meeting I'll try another method maybe by introducing some difficult words

first

Just wait and see

A New Semester

Hi all,

long time not to write

Right now, we are ,in Politani, at the beginning of new semester

I see many new faces

freshmen students

and leave old students behind

because they will not have English subject in their third semester

except for food crop study program students

they will have English III in their third semester

some of my students come from north sumatra, pekanbaru, jambi

but now most of them come from west sumatra

what an achievement !

for a long time, not many West Sumatra people know about Politani

they tend to study outside this area

mostly in Java

something new for this semester apart from my students is

i teach while i am carrying a baby now

it is a little bit scary for me because last year

i miscarried

it happened because i teach too much

walking up and down stairs many times

riding motorcycle

I hope this bad experience will not happen this year

God bless me !

Long life teachers !!!!!

Many lecturers gathered in department office that day.

Their jokes, their voices echoed in the room.

They seemed really enjoy themselves

but do you know what they are doing exactly?

they are correcting their students papers

they are marking their students after the final exam

Seeing their faces I feel happy too

Eventhough they are tired of checking hundreds of students final exam papers, they still

enthusiastic

hopefully, what they do that day will be regarded as a good deed in front of Allah

long life teachers !!!!!!!!!!

cheers

Short drama

Morning all,

In the last session of my teaching in semester 3 students of Food Crop, I assigned them to

make a short drama by using some idioms that have been learned before

Theme is free and they can do improvisation

Unfortunately, as it was time to perform their drama in front of the class, most of them admit

that they were not ready.

Even the script hasn't been made

Speechless, I instructed them to just go home and end up the class

but they refused

as the consequence, I gave them some time to make a script and perform their play

finally, after waiting for almost 20 minutes they finished the script and performed the play

From the play, i can conclude that :

1. Pronounciation is still matter

2. Idioms used only about one or two

3. The conversation is still unnatural

However, it is true that immersion is the best way of acquiring second language but still, there

are some people who can be success without being in the environment but only bringing that

environment in their environment. So, keep up the good work guys !!
